Swiss performance artist and feminist Milo Moiré just wanted to save Europe. Therefore, she travelled to various cities within the continent to wear her mirror box, a trapezoidal skirt made up of mirrored surfaces, to connect with people from all over the place. With a megaphone, she invited passers-by to reach into the opening for 30 seconds, in order to touch her vagina.
“I would be very happy if the laws within the EU would be regulated uniformly,” she tells us. “The UK should remain in the EU because Europe is like a big family, in which you can’t choose the members and you prefer some more than the other, but what Europe unites is the blood of freedom, which flows in all. A cohesion and the stay of Great Britain in the EU makes this family stronger.”
Milo had no problems performing in cities like Düsseldorf or Amsterdam, but London was something different, especially because of the threatening Brexit. She was arrested at Trafalgar Square, had to spend 24 hours in a cell, appear at court, and paid a four-digit fine. But Milo keeps fighting for a united Europe and women’s rights. “I am standing here for women’s rights and sexual self-determination,” she declares. “Women decide for themselves when and how they want to be touched and when they don’t.” And she’s right.
