So, believe it or not, but Natasha Khan is still the best singer in this lonely, grey, and sad world where everything seems to crumble faster than we could possibly realize. One day we’re jumping around in a summer rain party, laughing, kissing, feeling like we are immortal and better and something special, and on the next one, we find ourselves at the edge of our unavoidable end.
Bat for Lashes, Natasha Khan‘s alter ego, just shared the music video for her new song “Sunday Love,” which she conceived and created with co-direction from John DeMenil. Shot in the California desert, the clip shows a beautiful bride standing in the middle of a highway, bringing an oblivious, leather-jacketed driver to a halt before things get really supernatural.
“It’s a fantastic construct to use for a narrative because it has a universal meaning,” Natasha told Pitchfork about her new character The Bride. “Within that context, you can take it wherever you want. It’s nice to personalize the bride and make her a bit more weird and eccentric and rock’n’roll. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her over the last couple of years. What would she look like? What would she do? She’s longing for that archetypal man-and-wife scenario, this construct that you think would be quite a mainstream desire, but her actual inner self is not mainstream at all. It was a balancing act between those two aspects of being a woman.”
