Wow. TMZ reports that legendary American singer, songwriter and actor Prince Rogers Nelson is dead at age 57. His body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning. Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed. Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album “1999.”
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” said his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure. Authorities were called to Prince’s Paisley Park in Chanhassen shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday on a report of a “male down not breathing.”
Prince was one of the most popular and influential recording artists of his era. His epochal 1984 album, “Purple Rain,” featuring a string of hit singles including “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy,” sold more than 13 million copies, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, and is regarded as one of the greatest recordings of the decade.
