Apple, Facebook, Twitter – Silicon Valley is where everything relevant in today’s technological era happens. When it comes to the digital world, most people only know big names like Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates – and they don’t care about that huge universe behind their iPhone app. But it’s not only interesting but also important to see the faces behind Silicon Valley.
Distinguished photographer Helena Price wants to show the outside world a more comprehensive picture of people who work in tech and bring a bit of attention to folks in the industry whose stories have never been heard, considered or celebrated. So she started Techies, a visually stunning portrait project about the truly important people in Silicon Valley.
On Techies folks like Pinterest engineer Tracy Chou, freelance designer Hannah Swann and Yik Yak product designer Justin Carson talk about their daily life in the technology industry. “My biggest motivation is a sense of moral responsibility in taking advantage of all the privilege and advantages I’ve had to make the world a better place,” Tracy tells us. “I know that’s very vague and not prescriptive at all, but I’m trying to turn that motivation into something real.” Welcome to Silicon Valley.
