GitHub’s Open-source Editor Atom Reaches One Million Active Users

Cool kids know how to code, thanks to a whole new generation of growing up nerds who want to make their own iPhone app or Minecraft game or Airbnb for refrigerators – or sex robot. Or all of those things at the same time, who knows, almost everything is possible nowadays. And one company took up the cause of becoming the center for all things code: GitHub.

Atom, GitHub’s new open-source editor, just reached one million active users. “Atom has been successful because of the community that has grown around it,” says Lee Dohm. “The people that have contributed to Atom have helped it improve by leaps and bounds. All of us on the Atom team appreciate the work that the community has put into our collaborative project. We’re looking forward to what Atom will look like when we reach the next million users and hope that you are, too!”

So, if you want to get into the coding game, now would be the best time to download Atom for free and start creating something beautiful. Maybe you’re the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates or Markus Persson, who knows. I, for one, continue to use Coda, simply for the reason that Atom still has no native FTP support. But who knows what the future brings, am I right?
