If there’s one single thing to know about Tokyo, then that it’s the capital of amazing, crazy and visually stunning fashion. Shibuya, Harajuku and Shimokitazawa are the epicenters of colorful second-hand gear, kawaii students and a mixture of Japanese tradition and Western influences. And it’s time to get to know the best stores in town for vintage clothes.
The folks over at popular online lifestyle and fashion magazine Highsnobiety went to Tokyo’s hottest districts to present the best-known stores, if you’re finally tired of everything normal and boring. Local rapper Shurland Ayers visited shops like LABORATORY/BERBERJINR, Big Time and Pin Nap for the first episode of Highsnobiety’s video city guides.
“First up is Shimokitazawa, home to a vast range of thrift stores that sell everything from vintage Americana to military apparel”, Highsnobiety’s Marta Sundac tells us. “After that, we head to Harajuku, a colorful area with both vintage clothing as well as boutiques stocking new and customized garments.” If you’re ever in Tokyo, make sure to check out every single one of these gems!
