Chrono Trigger Reloaded

Hey Square Enix, Please Bring I Am Setsuna To The PlayStation Vita, Thanks!

This is something deeply personal. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all times. I played it on my Super Nintendo Entertainment System, I played it on my Nintendo DS, I played it on my iPhone. I would have played it on my toaster if that would be possible. I never got tired of Chrono Trigger and still love it deeply. And I always hoped to experience something like this in the future.

Maybe the new game I Am Setsuna is the closest thing to a Chrono Trigger Reloaded as it gets. “I Am Setsuna is a game that plays hard on your nostalgia for the golden age of RPGs in general, and Chrono Trigger specifically,” Richard Eisenbeis wrote on Kotaku. “If you have played and loved Chrono Trigger, I Am Setsuna is quite literally made for you. If you love classic JRPGs or stories where even the best of intentions spawn disastrous results, you are likewise its target. And as a fan of all three, I can tell you I enjoyed every minute.”

But there’s one huge downside, at least for me. Square Enix, the famous company behind I Am Setsuna, which also created Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy and Terranigma, announced they would skip the PlayStation Vita version of the game in the upcoming Western release and only concentrate on PlayStation 4 and Steam platforms. And that’s sad.

I not only love Chrono Trigger, but also my PS Vita, which I bought a couple of years ago in Tokyo. It’s a technologically masterpiece, the screen, the handling, the look. I basically lived Persona 4 Golden on this thing. And I’m kinda sad that the PS Vita is put in second place by publishers and studios – even by Sony itself. But here’s the thing: I Am Setsuna is released on the PS Vita – but only in Japan.

In a recent interview with US Gamer, I Am Setsuna director Atsushi Hashimoto went on record and said if there’s a large enough demand, they would consider bringing over the PS Vita version to Western countries as well: “Of course, there is a large Vita market in Japan. If there is a swell of demand in North America for the Vita version, though, we will consider it.”

And that’s I’m doing here: Dear Mr. Hashimoto, please bring I Am Setsuna to the PlayStation Vita! I want to play it in bed, at night, in the dark, just me and the story and the music and the characters. Fighting against monsters, traveling through secret locations and villages and cities, experiencing that unique Chrono Trigger feeling once more. The PS Vita is the perfect device for RPGs, a whole tiny world in my two hands. And I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling that way. Thanks!
