While I still live a quite happy life with my iPhone 5s, Apple just announced their new smartphone, which looks like the 5s, but is twice as powerful. At the heart of the iPhone SE is a 64-bit Apple A9 processor, together with an embedded M9 motion co-processor. And yes, it’s the same technology as in Apple’s current flagship smartphone iPhone 6s.
That means you can play games just quite brilliantly, plus it supports hands-free “Hey Siri” prompting. The camera is also carried over from the 6s. It’s the exact same 12-megapixel iSight camera with a dual-tone flash and the ability to shoot Live Photos and 4K video clips. Compared to my iPhone 5s that precedes the new SE at the 4-inch size, Apple’s new smartphone has a better battery life, new microphones, faster LTE and faster Wi-Fi. And it supports Apple Pay.
“Many, many customers have asked for this,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, during the launch event. “And I think they’re going to love it.” I like smaller phones, so maybe I’m gonna buy one of those. The new iPhone SE starts at $399 with 16GB of storage and maxes out at $499 with 64GB. It’ll be available in gold and rose gold as well as more light and dark editions. Cool.
