I’m really, really, really proud to see more or less former Deine Jugend singer Laura Carbone performing at SXSW later this month. Originally from Mannheim, Laura and her best friend Woxi revolutionized the German blogosphere with their dreadfully missed fashion blog The Fucking Fucks, just to jump into the depths of the adventurous music industry afterwards.
Laura Carbone’s debut solo album Sirens, which you can buy right here, is the dark diary of a deep-souled girl. Tracks like Heavy Heavy, Swans and Stigmatized seem to originate straight from a David Lynch movie, inspired by acts like PJ Harvey, Laura Branigan and Chris Isaak. “Black hearts feed sirens”, Laura sings. If you’re looking for cheerful happiness, you may search somewhere else.
Nevertheless, if you’re attending this year’s South by Southwest music festival, you can see Laura Carbone not once, not twice, but, believe it or not, three times! On March 17 at Tellers, on March 19 at the International Day Stage and later that same day at Maggie Mae’s. For more information just take a look at Laura Carbone’s Facebook page. You go, girl!
