A few days ago VICE launched its very own TV channel called VICELAND which will broadcast news, music videos and documentaries all day long. One new show is called Gaycation and it follows Ellen Page and Ian Daniel traveling around the world to take a look at different queer cultures and how their protagonists live with their individual preferences.
In the first episode of Gaycation Ellen and Ian went to far-east Japan to find themselves on a adventurous journey which includes getting friendship-married at a Buddhist temple, working at a rent-a-friend agency and joining the party in the world’s smallest gay bar. And they helped a young guy coming out to his mom. That’s quite nice, isn’t it?
„I love travel shows“, Ellen told Slate. “I always learn so much, and I wanted to see one from a gay perspective that explored LGBT communities around the world. Naturally, that becomes the joys, the fun, the scene, and then also the struggles, the triumphs, and the difficulties. By focusing on the community, you can learn more about the whole country.” True.
