Thank God, the Japanese indie music market is still a vibrant and mostly undiscovered world, full of young talents who don’t follow the paths AKB48 & Co. paved for them. They wanna create their own sounds, their own experiences, their own fanbases. While staying true to themselves. With unique tracks not suitable for everyone. Like the Japanese indie girl band The Peggies.
Yuuho Kitazawa, Makiko Ishiwatari and Miku Oonuki found not only their own rock band, but also their very own indie label called Poppo Express. The Peggies released their first album called TOKYO in 2014 and have just released New Kingdom, a record full of Japanese pop culture, love in the big city and quite girly dreams of a better future.
You can listen to some of The Peggie’s older tracks right on SoundCloud, watch their videos on YouTube and buy their new album New Kingdom on iTunes or RecoChoku. And if you happen to live in Tokyo or nearby, then be sure to check out their official website, where Yuuho, Makiko and Miku announce their next live gigs every now and then. Love in the Tokyo!
