Miller Rodriguez lives for the moment. For his blog Pretty Puke he roams through the dark streets and well-lit apartments of Los Angeles, hanging around with the new generation of energetic kids who came to own the city like no one ever did before, who don’t care for the rules, but for freedom in all its excessive ways. They are the personified Internet. And he’s right in the middle.
Miller was born and raised in Los Angeles and knows the city on the West Coast like the back of his hand. Photography allows him to capture the directness of a special kind of lifestyle in a way no other medium can. Pretty Puke is raw, up close and graphic. It immortalizes lost souls. Miller describes his work as “hyper-reality within our reality.”
“I want to create a world with people who aren’t flawless,” he tells us. “I don’t have a reaction to perfection. I’m an advocate for the ”˜ugly.’ I’m exaggerating and holding up a mirror to showcase how silly we are for making everything look perfect. We all have flaws, and that’s what interests me. Older generations may look down on us for being too obsessed with technology, too sexually deviant, too entitled, but they are the ones who made us who we are.”
