No problem: In South Korea’s cuisine metropole Seoul there’s one small shop, where you can eat cute octopus – while it’s still breathing and screaming and trying to escape. Wow.
VICE recently headed over to North Korea’s unloved brother as part of its food-centric MUNCHIES series to visit Jongno Octopus where Head Chef Kim Sang Jin shows hungry folks the proper way to eat and serve live octopus. Freshly caught and locally sourced, the creature is washed and drained by Chef Kim as he cuts the tentacles into small bite-sized pieces.
A dash of chili, garlic and sesame oil tops the dish as it makes its way out to the customers. Slow and steady chewing is a recommended route to consuming the traditional dish, a staple in Korean cuisine.
