British cult magazine i-D asked photographer Romano Pizzichini and stylist Patricia Williams to create an exclusive film with French model Juliette about football and boxing, to show the world: Girls rule! London based Patricia, who has also a inspiring Tumblr blog, answeres a few questions about their creation and the movie’s heroine.
How did you come up with a fashion story about boxing?
I have always been inspired by sports be it football, tennis, boxing, athletics, swimming etc and I always go back to it whenever thinking up new ideas to shoot/new stories to tell. I think there are so many stories to be found in being an observer, fan or athlete but whenever you say you work in fashion and you’re into sports, people think you’re a bit weird. So I sat down with Romano and we decided it’d be really cool to portray this woman who is tough enough to go a few rounds in the ring but also a girl that’s a girls girl, all in the same breath.
What were the processes involved in the making of the film?
Romano actually boxes at the gym we shot the film at and his coach was on hand on the day to help with getting all the movement just right! Plus he plays in the Sunday league with the boys of Nike 1948, who also feature in our stills shot, and Ysham is a former amateur champion boxer. Putting together all the elements of things that we were familiar with and shooting it in Romano’s low-fi, classic fast paced vibe was crucial in getting the final image we wanted.
Tell us more about the film’s heroine”¦
I’m sure I want Juliette to be my best mate. Apart from Ysham getting knocked out, my favourite part of the shoot was getting the image back of Juliette with Katie Eary’s archive helmet on and the snow drop in mid frame. She just looks so bad ass!
